Buying Your First Home in Baltimore
You don't have to already know how this works. We explain the process before we look at a single home.
You don't have to already know how this works
Buying your first home comes with a lot of questions. Many first-time buyers worry that they don't know what they don't know. That's normal, and it's our job to explain it.
We go through the entire process with you, so you always know what to expect and what comes next.
What most first-time buyers don't know yet
In our first conversation, we walk you through:
- What you can afford, and what your price range is
- What your monthly payment is made of
- Who is involved in the process, and when
- Which decisions you'll make, and at what point
Step one: get pre-approved
The best first step is to get pre-approved. We tell every first-time buyer this because we want you to understand what you can afford, what your price range is, what your monthly payment consists of, and what you'll be comfortable with. That way, we search for homes in the right price range.
We try to do all of this before we see any houses, so we don't look at homes you can't afford or that are out of your price range.
Help with a down payment
There may be first-time homebuyer assistance programs that help with a down payment, if you meet certain guidelines, and some programs are offered through employers. We ask you to talk with your lender about those options.
We keep you on track
As we go through the process, we remind you what step to expect next. You'll always know who is involved, what decision is coming, and when. Read the whole buying process.
